Enjoying School Every Day

When I was a kid, I didn't like school very much. It seemed long and boring, and I couldn't wait for the day to end. However, as I grew up, I realized that there were a lot of things about school that were absolutely precious, such as the chance to further your education and expand your mind. I started focusing more seriously on enjoying school, and it was a really incredible experience. Within a few short months, I was participating more in class, getting better grades, and making more friends in the classes that I was a part of. This blog is all about enjoying school more and more each day.

Exploring Non-Medicated ADHD Treatment For Children And How To Know If It Is Right For Your Child

Education & Development Blog

If your child has been diagnosed with ADHD, you may feel apprehensive about rushing into treating the condition with medication. While many children are treated with various medications for ADHD that does not mean it is the best way to treat your child. Exploring children's non-medicated ADHD treatment is a good first step in getting your child the help they need.

Dietary changes

If your child is sensitive to certain dyes or preservatives in processed foods, it may aggravate ADHD in some children. It never hurts to try a healthier diet and if you make changes gradually, your child will likely accept it easier. Replace processed foods with lots of healthy fruits, vegetables, and lean protein, and make sure your child is not consuming large amounts of sugary drinks, such as soft drinks or juices with high fructose sugar in them.

Sleep

Many children do not get an adequate amount of sleep. This may be because of the advancement of technology and kids using cell phones, tablets, and computers before going to bed at night. The lights from these devices can overstimulate a child's senses and make it difficult for them to fall asleep, so limiting the use of electronic devices for an hour prior to bedtime may help.

Exercise

A child with ADHD has a lot of excess energy that needs an outlet. Getting your child involved in sports or other activities can help release some of their excessive energy. Taking walks with your child or working out together can help them develop a good habit of consistent daily exercise.

Meditation

Meditation can help your child learn to sit still and focus for a few minutes throughout the day. Meditation may be beneficial for kids with ADHD because it does not require a long period of sitting. Learning meditation techniques gives your child a way to take control of their emotions, thoughts, and feelings.

Music therapy

Music therapy may benefit some children because it provides them with an outlet to express their emotions. Music therapy can be relaxing and enjoyable and your child will feel good about what they are accomplishing through music. The key is to choose an instrument your child is excited about learning to play.

If you are a parent of a child with ADHD, it is normal to feel concerned about the side effects of some ADHD medications and the long-term effects they may have on your child's health. Discussing non-medicated methods of treatment with your child's healthcare provider is a good first step to seeing if counseling or other treatments will work for your child so you can avoid medication.
